Lesson: Stretch Yourself

Being the person that I am, it's very difficult for me to gloat about my understanding about certain things. It was today that I got hit with this enormous, heavy, nervous-filled load of feelings as I was called upon by my design teacher to be the 'model' for a certain drawing we were doing. I wasn't the second person called, or the last - I was the first. She had informed us that these drawings, called blind contouring, would be different and also very challenging. Meant for "opening up your mind to a different type of art...blah blah blah" =)

Directions: pick up your pencil, cover your paper with something, don't look at anything but the subject (me at that moment), and draw - oh and don't lift your pencil from the paper. For some of you this may sound extremely easy, but let me just tell you it was awful. Talk about an interesting way to set aside all emotions and understanding - to just let your hand flow across the paper. As I sat on the platform I tried my best to understand what this exercise was going to teach ME - by the end of our lesson I was able to finish 3 blind contouring drawings (of course they looked awful) - but I saw them and just laughed. It wasn't about being perfect and analyzing every single detail of the subject. (which I ever so carefully do ALL the time)

It was nice to stretch myself today, I say that with an extreme SIGH. I don't know if it's something I would like to do all the time, everyday. But it's nice to know that when thrown into some different situations that I'm not quite use to, a great outcome is possible.

Now...it's back to my comfortable state - - that wallflower type of state =)

*My professor thanked me for being "bold" - - - - I looked at her, smiled....and wanted to throw up*

Did you tell your prof you wanted to throw up? That would have been awesome.

I'm proud of you my little introverted friend.

Well...thankfully you weren't asked to be the subject of a nude work!

:)

P.S. I think I may have counted somewhere between ten and twenty flurries during the big 'snowstorm'. Hopefully the grocery stores will be able to restock all that unneeded bread. :)

Hugs!
